It is very common and I suspect most people would have suffered from tinnitus – albeit briefly – at some point in their lives. The most common form of tinnitus is a high-pitched ringing – the sound of crickets at night. Some people sense a humming or hissing. Tinnitus may present in one or both ears and can be pulsatile at times.

There has been an uptick in the incidence of tinnitus during the Covid pandemic. Some experts feel that this is simply due to the pandemic-driven lifestyle of isolation.

The British Tinnitus Association based on safety data reported by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) showed that 1 in 7,275 people who receive the Covid vaccine will report tinnitus. This makes tinnitus a very rare side-effect of Covid vaccination. The association may also be pure coincidence.

A large ear institute in the USA (House Ear Clinic) looked at their own data of patients presenting with hearing loss, tinnitus, or dizziness following covid vaccination and found no correlation.

If you do develop tinnitus, it is important to seek an early evaluation of your hearing. Our clinics are equipped with audiometric equipment to test your hearing and identify any hearing loss. Prompt and early intervention can reverse any hearing loss and potentially alleviate tinnitus

Share this blog via:

Tinnitus or ringing in the ears is a subjective perception of noise.
